The Yoga of the Royal Secret
राजविद्याराजगुह्ययोगः · Rāja-vidyā-rāja-guhya-yoga · 34 verses
Krishna calls this the king of knowledge and the king of secrets, and it is the warmest chapter so far. The divine is the hidden support of everything, like space holding the wind, and is also approachable: a leaf, a flower, a little water offered with love is accepted. Nobody is excluded, and a person who turns sincerely, even after a wrong life, is quickly set right.
Traditionally linked with Jupiter, the planet of wisdom, faith and abundance. It is read during a Jupiter Dasha, or when Jupiter is weak or debilitated by transit, to widen perspective and restore trust. The chapter says the divine meets us wherever we are, and that sincere devotion matters more than perfection. It is a reflective practice, not a prediction.

Krishna says: to you, who does not find fault, I will tell this most secret knowledge together with direct realisation, knowing which you will be freed from what harms. It is the king of knowledge and the king of secrets, supremely pure, directly perceived, in line with dharma, easy to practise and unending. People with no faith in this path, not reaching Me, return to the road of worldly life that is bound by death.

This whole world is pervaded by Me in My unseen form. All beings rest in Me, but I do not rest in them. And yet beings do not truly rest in Me: look at My divine power. My self sustains beings without being contained in them, and brings them into being. As the mighty wind, moving everywhere, always rests in space, know that all beings rest in Me.

At the end of an age all beings merge into My nature, and at the start of the next age I send them forth again. Taking hold of My own nature, I send out this whole crowd of beings again and again, helpless under the force of nature. These acts do not bind Me, Arjuna, for I sit as one who is unconcerned and unattached to them. Under My watching, nature brings forth the moving and the unmoving, and for this reason the world keeps turning.

Fools disregard Me when I wear a human body, not knowing My higher nature as the Lord of all beings. With empty hopes, empty actions and empty knowledge, without discernment, they lean on a deluded nature that is harsh and hungry for the senses.

But the great-souled, who rely on a divine nature, worship Me with an undistracted mind, knowing Me as the imperishable source of all beings. Always praising Me, striving with firm vows, bowing to Me with devotion and ever united, they worship Me. Others worship Me through the sacrifice of knowledge, seeing Me as one, as many, and as present everywhere.

I am the ritual, I am the sacrifice, the offering for the ancestors, the healing herb, the sacred word, the ghee, the fire and the act of offering. I am the father of this world, its mother, its supporter and its grandfather; what is to be known, the purifier, the syllable Om and the three Vedas. I am the goal, the sustainer, the lord, the witness, the home, the refuge and the friend; the origin, the dissolution, the foundation, the storehouse and the imperishable seed. I give heat, I hold back and send forth the rain; I am immortality and also death, being and not being, Arjuna.

Those who know the three Vedas, drink the sacred soma and are cleansed of wrong, worshipping Me through sacrifices, pray for heaven; they reach the merit-won world of Indra and enjoy divine pleasures there. Having enjoyed the vast heaven, when their merit runs out they return to the mortal world; so those who follow ritual and want enjoyments keep coming and going. But for those who worship Me, thinking of nothing else and always united with Me, I carry what they lack and keep safe what they have.

Even devotees of other deities who worship with faith are really worshipping Me alone, though not in the right way. I am the one who receives and rules every sacrifice; those who do not know Me in truth fall back. Worshippers of the gods go to the gods, worshippers of the ancestors go to the ancestors, worshippers of spirits go to spirits, and those who worship Me come to Me.

Whoever offers Me with devotion a leaf, a flower, a fruit or water, I accept that loving offering from a pure heart. Whatever you do, whatever you eat, offer, give or practise as discipline, do it as an offering to Me. In this way you will be freed from the bonds of action and their good and bad results; with a mind steady in the yoga of letting go, liberated, you will come to Me.

I am the same to all beings; no one is hateful or dear to Me; but those who love Me with devotion are in Me and I am in them. Even if someone of very wrong conduct worships Me with undivided devotion, they should be regarded as good, for they have resolved rightly. Quickly they become righteous and find lasting peace; know for certain, Arjuna, that My devotee never perishes.

Those who take refuge in Me, even people that society looks down on, women, traders and laborers, reach the highest goal. How much more, then, the virtuous and the devoted sages of royal birth! Having come into this fleeting, joyless world, worship Me. Fix your mind on Me, be devoted to Me, worship Me and bow to Me; joining yourself to Me in this way, with Me as your highest aim, you will come to Me.
